The Special Crimes Unit investigates all homicides that occur within the City of Amarillo, Potter County and Armstrong County. The Special Crimes Unit also investigates any officer-involved shootings, in custody deaths, infant and fire deaths as well as any deaths of a questionable manner. The Special Crimes Unit is located on the second floor of the Amarillo Police Department. The Coordinator of the Special Crimes Unit is Lt. Erick Bohannon of the Amarillo Police Department. The unit consists of officers from the Amarillo Police Department and the Potter County Sheriff’s Office specializing in investigations and crime scene work. The unit secretary is provided by the 47th District Attorney’s Office.
