Man arrested after burglary on Parker St.

On 12-9-12, at 12:20 AM, officers were sent to a home in the 3600 block of S. Parker on a report that someone had just kicked in the victim’s front door and fled.  A responding officer saw a male walking near the 1500 block of SW 38th, a short distance from the call.  When the officer tried to make contact with the man, he ran.  The officer pursued the man but lost sight of him.  Officers sealed off the area and started searching for the man.  The officer sighted the suspect again in the 3600 block of Cline and the man ran again.  The foot pursuit went through a yard and across a fence into the 3600 block of S. Lipscomb, where other officers were able to join in taking the man into custody without further incident.  Officers retraced the man’s path and found a black coat in a back yard on Cline.  Inside the coat was a 9mm handgun loaded with one cartridge.  The weapon’s serial number had been ground off or altered and could not be read.   The suspect, Tedrick Dewayne Morgan, BM age 38 of Amarillo, was taken to the Randall County Sheriff’s Office and booked on charges of burglary of a habitation, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest or detention (with prior conviction), and public intoxication.  The victim did not know the suspect.  She reported to officers that she was asleep and heard the noise at the front door.  When she entered her living room, she saw someone going out the front door, which had been badly damaged and was open.  Nothing was taken from the home.
