11-29-12: Man arrested in robbery of Sonic at 101 Tascosa Road

On 11-29-12, at 3:19 PM, officers were sent to the Sonic Drive-In at 101 Tascosa Road on an armed robbery of a car hop.  Amarillo Emergency Communications had obtained a description of the suspect vehicle, a white Chevrolet Cavalier.  The vehicle reportedly left southbound on Bell.  The vehicle and suspect descriptions were broadcast to officers.  Within minutes, an APD motorcycle officer looking for the vehicle saw a white Cavalier near 9th and S. Western.  The driver matched the description provided, a white male wearing a white baseball cap.  The officer stopped the man in the 3900 block of Center and held him until other officers could arrive to assist.  They took Jerrod Allen Standridge, WM 31 of Amarillo, into custody.  Officers collected evidence including money he was carrying and a black air pistol that had the appearance of a real firearm from the car.  The victim, a male employee of the Sonic, told officers that the suspect had ordered food at the drive-in.  When he brought the man his order, the suspect produced a handgun.  The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and demanded all the money.  After he got the money, the suspect told the car hop to turn around and walk away and not look at him or he would shoot him.  Standridge was taken back to the scene and identified as the suspect.  Standridge was booked into the Potter Co. Correctional Center on a charge of aggravated robbery.
