Increased patrol for holiday season

DETAILS: On Thanksgiving evening (11-22-2012), the Amarillo Police Department began the yearly Holiday Patrol program. Additional uniformed patrol officers that will not be assigned to normal calls for service will patrol parking lots that may attract criminals looking for a chance to steal from vehicles or shoppers. The Holiday Patrol will also be visible on streets with a heavy traffic volume in the shopping areas.

The goal of the Holiday Patrol is to provide high visibility of officers and protection for shoppers. The marked patrol units will be working in several areas and at various times of the day.

The Amarillo Police Department would like to remind you that you can protect your belongings by not leaving personal property or newly purchased items in your vehicle. Locking the doors may not protect your property, as thieves often break windows or damage locks to get into vehicles. Be alert for people on foot or in vehicles that seem to be prowling or looking into cars rather than looking for a place to park, and call the police department at 378-3038 to report the suspicious activity
